"Wreck of the Shiloh"- 1989

This work brings to life the fate of many a ship in distress on the treacherous Diamond Shoals of Cape Hatteras. The historic accounts of hundreds of similar catastrophes popularized the description of this part of the North Carolina coast, as "The Graveyard of the Atlantic."

"Swansboro"- 1983

The clearness and clarity of atmosphere and light on early autumn morning gave me this inspired vision of fishing boats in the small coastal hamlet of Swansboro. This scene is typical along the Southern coast in the past but is becoming more and more less encountered.

"Sunset"- 1998

Ocean, sky, and beach take on the hue and glow of sunrise. This artist could spend his entire career and only capture a few of the visual nuances these dynamic elements offer up to delight my visual sense.

"Ocracoke"- 1984

Ocracoke Island is one of my favorite retreats to relax and look for subject matter for paintings. This scene, especially the simple architecture of the fishing shack intrigued me to paint this quiet scene at least 2 times so far; here and also a painting entitled "Silver Lake." The questions of "Ocracoke" is barely "heard" except in the barely audible swoosh of air leaving the pelicans wingbeats.

"Egret on Ocracoke"- 1988

Another waking scene from Ocracoke Island. The morning mist begins to "burn off" as the sun climbs the heavens.
