“In such a flat and flowing landscape the lighthouse contrasts sharply.
Architecturally exact in its vertical shape, it rises triumphantly above
the natural see level vista. Singular in its appearance the proud beacon
becomes dwarfed by the towering cumulus clouds and the great fluid expanse of sea and sand”
“I walk about the shallows. Here, the swell of the ocean becomes a
rippling flow of breeze swept tidal shapes, exposing a jewel like
glistening of myriads of colorful shells. The shallows reveal an intense
visual palette of refracted light and shadow on the shell bottom. Then
returning a few hours later, the change of tide has obscured this palette
and the shell bottom has been replaced by a brownish green murkiness of
deeper water. Such is the daily dynamic rhythms of the sea; certain to
rise, certain to fall, certain to change. It is this force that reveals and
created the shores of Cape Lookout. I am but an amazed observer who desires to recreate its affects on me. Its time for a “Change of Tide”
