Alan Cheek's painting "Breaking Through" portrays one of the most significant achievements of human ingenuity; the first powered flight by a man and a machine. Many others previous had only dreamed of flying lika bird. But it was two bicycle mechanics from Ohio, pictured here, that were able to"break through" and pilot mankind into the era of aviation. At Kitty Hawk on the windswept dunes of North Carolina's Outer Banks in December of 1903; man learned to fly.
